TOURIST INFORMATION

Ottawa's tourism community has adopted a "Child and Youth Friendly Program" that will help ensure that our accommodations, festivals, attractions, restaurants and stores will be equipped to welcome our young visitors. Here are some ideas to help you plan an interesting program for your younger delegates!

Canadian War Museum

Located strategically close to Parliament Hill, Canada's newly constructed War Museum opened its doors on May 8, 2005. The Canadian War Museum shows how war has shaped Canada, and present the personal, national and international dimensions of Canada's military history.

The Canadian War Museum features over 500,000 artifacts on display including 28 Victoria cross medals, 370 Group of Seven pieces of art and much more! The Museum features morse code in both official languages that reads "Lest We Forget" on the North fin and and that spells out the museum's initials "CWM" on the south wall. At 11am on November 11th each year, the sun shines through the window of the Museum's memorial hall and illuminates the only artifact in that space: the headstone of Canada's unknown soldier.

The mission of the War Museum is to Educate, Preserve and Remember.
